Cavite chicken, eggs safe; Quezon checkpoints strict
TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite/PITOGO, Quezon — Let caution be exercised, but there’s no need to press the panic button over bird flu concerns, especially in the Southern Tagalog region.
Yesterday, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Cavite declared that chicken and eggs from farms in the province are absolutely safe for consumption, emphasizing that the avian influenza virus has not reached the area.
Cavite has a number of big poultry farms in upland municipalities of Silang, Alfonso, General Emilio Aguinaldo (also called Bailen), Magallanes and Amadeo and one in Imus District, the province’s capital.
“There is really nothing to be alarmed of as far as Cavite poultry products are concerned. Chicken and eggs from farms the province as foods are safe to eat,” Dr. Gloria Digma, provincial assistant veterinarian, told The Manila Bulletin.
In Quezon, veterinary quarantine checkpoints against the illegal entry of livestock, particularly wild and poultry products, have been intensified.
Just last Wednesday, about 320 live chicks from Bulacan were intercepted by the Municipal Agriculture Office in Barangay Ibabang Burgos in Pitogo in violation of a local measure issued by the governor’s office.
Although the province of Bulacan has no case of avian flu, a strict policy has been implemented in the province with regard to the entry of chickens, fowl and their products.
In relation to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Memorandum Circular No. 09, Series 2017 on the temporary ban on the movement of live domestic and wild birds and their products, Governor David C. Suarez ordered to thwart any attempt of such products entering Quezon province.
