CHINA BANK MARKS 97TH YEAR WITH SIGNIFICANT MILESTONES
China Banking Corporation (China Bank), the Philippines’ first privately-owned commercial bank and now one of the largest, celebrates its 97th year of being the best bank for its clients, building on the strength of its core values and a rich history of outstanding service.
By espousing an innovative spirit grounded in a culture of prudence, the Bank continues to expand its branch network and services, build and sustain strong relationships with clients, and offers relevant and inclusive banking solutions.
China Bank registered a 10% growth in net profits in the first half of 2017 to 13.6 billion, driven by strong growth in its lending business and corerecurring income. This translates to a return on equity (ROE) and return on assets (ROA) of 10.44% and 1.13%, respectively.
The Bank received an investment grade credit rating of Baa2 from Moody’s Investors Service (Moody’s), one of the leading credit rating agencies in the world. This rating is at par with the country’s top three biggest banks.
Corporate Governance Asia hailed China Bank Best Investor Relations Company – Philippines, Asia’s Best CEO (Investor Relations) - Philippines for President and CEO Ricardo R. Chua, and Best Investor Relations Professional - Philippines for SVP for Investor and Corporate Relations Alexander C. Escucha at the 7th Asian Excellence Awards. At The Asset’s 2017 Triple A Asia Infrastructure Awards, China Bank won Best Power Deal. The Asian Banker also recognized China Bank for having the “Best Core Banking Implementation Project” at their 2017 Technology Innovation Awards. In 2017, China Bank opened 20 new branches all over the country. This brings the nationwide total of branches to 412, and the group-wide total to 568, including China Bank Savings branches.
Other significant milestones achieved include the 115-billion raised in stocks rights offer, a new stock brokerage subsidiary, a secure and streamlined online banking platform, full EMV Capability, exclusive travel deals with China Bank Credit Cards, and caring for the communities.
