- By RAYMUND F.ANTONIO

With the help of books, the Office of the Vice President is seeking to make an impact in the life and education of students from various public schools in the country.

This month, the OVP has launched a book drive coinciding with the fifth death anniversary of former Naga City Mayor and Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Jesse is the late husband of Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo. He died in plane crash off Masbate on August 18, 2012.

“Every August we mark the death anniversary of Jesse Robredo, and we will do so by innaugurating new libraries,” she said in the vernacular.

Last week, the former Camarines Sur representative led the inauguration of a school library at the Floridablanca New Settlement Elementary School (FNSES) in Pampanga.

Through the efforts of the OVP and in collaboration with the AHON Foundation and the Jesse M. Robredo Foundation, the library was fully renovated and provided with new books and other reference materials.

AHON Foundation, a partner organization of Angat Buhay project, shares the advocacy of Robredo and her office to rekindle Filipino children’s love for reading.

To connect with local communities, the group aims to develop fully functional libraries that will make books accessible to children, and restore the culture of reading among the youth.

The OVP and the foundation had donated books to the FNSES, among which were copies of “Nay, Ano ang Bayani? Ang Kwento ni Jesse Robredo.”
