Palace lauds PH team's medal harvest in SEA Games
“Our medal harvest continues.” Malacañang lauded on Wednesday the Philippine team's continuous raking in of medals in the 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He hailed the Philippine delegation after 17 Filipino
athletes won medals, five of which are gold, on Tuesday, giving the Philippines a total of eight gold medals.
“The Palace wishes to congratulate all the Filipino athletes who competed in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, August 22,” Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said in a statement.
Having golden victories in Tuesday's SEA Games were Reyland Yuson Capellan in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Individual Floor Exercise; Brennan Wayne Louie, Men’s Foil Individual of the Fencing Competition; and Eric Shauwn Cray, Men’s 400-meter Hurdles Athletics.
Having their also own golden moments were Kaitlin de Guzman in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Uneven Bars Event, and Agatha Chrystenzen Wong in the Women’s Taijiquan Event of the Wushu competition.
Giving the Philippines more silver medals are Nathaniel Perez in the Men’s Foil Individual of the Fencing Competition; Jayson Ramil Macaalay, Male Kumite Event Under 60-kilogram of the Karate-Do Competition; Rexor Tacay, Male Kumite Event Under 67-kilogram of the Karate-Do Competition; and Cray, Men’s 100-meter Dash Athletics.
The lone Filipina to give the Philippines a silver on Tuesday was Hanniel Abella in the Women’s Epee Individual Fencing.
Adding more bronze medals to the Philippines' medal tally are Harlene Raguin in the Women’s Epee Individual Fencing; Junna Tsukii in the Female Kumite--50-kilogram Event of the KarateDo Competition; Roxanne Ashley Yu, Women’s 200-meter (Backstroke) Swimming; and Evelyn Palabrica, Women’s Javelin Throw Athletics.
Winning the Philippines more bronze medals were Orencio James delos Santos in the Men’s Kata-Individual Event of the Karate-Do Competition; Richard Gonzales, Men’s Individual Table Tennis; and Ian Clark Bautista for Boxing Flyweight Division.
As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, the Philippines has a total of eight gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 13 bronze medals, according to Abella.
