Cop abducted in Caloocan City

AValenzuel­a City police officer was abducted by still unidentifi­ed gunmen in Caloocan City Thursday night.

Senior Supt. Ronaldo Mendoza, Valenzuela City police chief, said Police Officer 1 Jomar Reyes was seized along Mariano Street near EDSA in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City at around 6 p.m.

The police officer’s wife told investigat­ors that her husband left their residence after he received a call from PO2 Demetrio Ramilo of Northern Police District.

According to her husband, he will meet Ramilo along EDSA.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in near the police officer’s residence showed two men immediatel­y leaving a store after spotting Reyes’ vehicle.

Witnesses added that when Reyes got stuck in traffic, the gunmen seized and handcuffed him before forcibly transferri­ng him to an L-300 van which sped off.

The police recovered the abandoned vehicle with a shattered window. Likewise recovered was R160,000 cash.

One of the suspects reportedly drove the Avanza but it stalled. The suspect left the vehicle on EDSA and fled with the other suspects.

Efforts to get in touch with PO2 Ramilo were futile as of presstime.

Reyes’ wife told invetigato­rs that her husband is also a money lender and has no known enemy.

Further investigat­ion and pursuit operations against the suspects are ongoing.
