7 evacuation centers to rise in Ilocos region

DAGUPAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Ilocos regional office announced that the region will soon have a total of seven permanent evacuation centers.

Two centers have already been unveiled, three more are nearing completion while two others have been subjected to a bidding process.

DPWH Regional Director Ronnel M. Tan said that once these projects are completed, the evacuation centers will be used to house residents displaced by disasters and calamities.

Esperanza Tinaza, DPWH informatio­n officer, told the Manila Bulletin that then evacuation center in Bacnotan, La Union is now 95 percent complete, while the one in Calasiao, Pangasinan is 71 percent complete.

The ground-breaking ceremonies for the evacuation centers in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur and Paoay, Ilocos Norte were held June 1, 2017 and June 15, 2017, respective­ly.

Bidding for the proposed evacuation center projects in Dasol, and San Nicolas, Pangasinan was conducted last July 25, 2017.

The evacuation centers have a dining room, food preparatio­n/ dishwashin­g area, communicat­ions room, breastfeed­ing and storage area, male and female comfort rooms and bath rooms, laundry and drying areas, water tanks, generator rooms, pump rooms and garbage disposal sites, among others.
