Shopee launches the biggest mobile shopping day in Southeast Asia

- Macy Castillo, Head of Commercial Business, Shopee

Filipinos continue to forego buying from traditional brick and mortar stores in favor of convenient online shopping. Shopee, the leading e-Commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan and now No. 1 in the Shopping category on both the Google Play Store and the App Store, has met this demand, providing customers with a seamless online shopping experience while providing strong payment and logistical support absent in most other eCommerce platforms in the country.

On September 9, Shopee will hold their second annual Shopee 9.9 Mobile Shopping Day, a one-day event offering a wide range of promotions, including, but not limited to, discounts of up to 99% off, top picks under P99, and flash sales to celebrate significant milestones it has reached In just two short years. Shopee is now the number 1 Shopping app on both the Google Play Store and App Store and has surpassed $3-billion in annualized Gross Merchandise Value with over 50 million downloads and more than 100 active million listings. In the Philippines, Shopee has been downloaded over 4 million times.

Macy Castillo, Head of Commercial Business for Shopee states “Shopee users spend 25 minutes daily browsing the app and are highly social, with over 86% of buyers chatting first with the seller before making a purchase compared to only 75% in the other six countries Shopee is present in. We take these and other user behavior into consideration when improving the platform, prompting us to develop features such as user ratings and reviews, live chat, and Shopee Guarantee,” referencing the lengths Shopee is willing to go, in the pursuit of custom tailoring their services to the specific needs and preferences of users in each country they are present in. Though Shopee may have a multitude of big industry partners, their doors were first open to small, upand-coming entrepreneurs, allowing anyone who wanted to start a business to have an online store with very low barriers to entry. Shopee does not charge any listing or commission fees, as well as is the first to offer Free Shipping and multiple payment options including Cash on Delivery nationwide to all buyers and sellers via the app.

Further emboldened by a projected annual Philippines e-commerce growth rate of 34% according to Google and Temasek, Shopee fully intends on taking a more aggressive stance with regards to expansion. “Looking ahead, the future of the Philippines’ e-commerce market is very promising. We are highly confident that 9.9 Mobile Shopping Day will continue to be celebrated as an iconic day that appeals to the needs of the increasing number of online shoppers in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia,” Castillo ended.

On September 9, the Shopee 9.9 Mobile Shopping Day will give exclusive bundle deals and discounts up to 99% off across multiple categories like fashion, health and beauty, gadgets and electronics, and home and baby products. Users can also enjoy giveaways on Shopee’s social media accounts. For more information, visit http://shopee.ph/99.
