From jail guard to jail bird

DAVAO CITY – In a stark reversal of fortune, a jail guard may soon find himself spending time in prison after he was apprehended by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for possession and sale of shabu in a buy-bust operation.

He is now in jail at the Digos City Police Station.

Nabbed was JO2 Manuel Lumactud De Guzman Jr., 32, a jail guard assigned at the Digos City Jail, and a resident of Purok Pagtoo, 1st Crumb, Street, Resuelo Compound, Barangay Zone 1, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

De Guzman was arrested after selling a sachet of suspected shabu worth R500 to operatives, who acted as poseur buyer.

Another small sachet of suspected shabu and the buy-bust marked money bill were also recovered from De Guzman.

Joint elements from Davao del Sur Provincial Drug Enforcement Office of PDEA together with Digos City Police Station City Drug Enforcement Unit conducted the buy-bust operation last September 1, 2017 at 4:05 p.m. at Quirino Street, Barangay Zone 2, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The seized drugs were submitted to the Provincial Crime Laboratory of Davao del Sur for qualitative and quantitative examination. Cases for violation of Section 5 and Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” are being filed against him.
