LPA approaching PH; Rains expected
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring a new low pressure area (LPA) over the Pacific Ocean that may intensify into a tropical cyclone once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) early next week.
According to PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio, the LPA will likely enter the PAR between Sunday (Sept. 10) and Monday (Sept. 11).
The Japan Meteorological Agency, however, has already classified the weather disturbance as a tropical depression yesterday.
Should the LPA intensify into a cyclone, PAGASA said it will be given tne local name ‘Lannie.’
Today, PAGASA said the ridge of high pressure area remains the prevailing weather system over Luzon.
It said partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms will affect the whole archipelago.
As the weather disturbance east of Luzon continues to move closer to PAR, the weather bureau noted that this may increase thunderstorm occurrences and bring more rainshowers to most parts of the country.
By Monday, extreme Northern Luzon, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Quezon, Rizal and Bulacan will be cloudy with light to occasionally moderate rain showers, some gusty winds and chances of lightning occurrences due to thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered light rain showers and thunderstorms and may be accompanied by gusty winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, PAGASA said the disturbance will enhance the southwest wind flow, which will bring rains over the western section of the country.
Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Bataan, Zamboanga Peninsula, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, including Metro Manila will have cloudy skies with occasionally light to moderate rains.
