Trillanes ready to sign waivers to disown offshore accounts

- By HANNAH L. TORREGOZA

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said yesterday that he would sign bank waivers to prove he has no offshore bank accounts as President Duterte has alleged.

Trillanes, at the same time, challenged Duterte to do the same.

“I categorically deny the allegation. I don't own even a single offshore account. I am willing to sign waivers for such accounts,” Trillanes said in an interview over Radio DZBB.

According to Trillanes, it’s been a long time since he opened a personal bank account.

“I opened a bank account before I was detained. I couldn't even remember how to open a bank account,” the former soldier said.

Last Saturday, Duterte said he would be coming out with Trillanes' bank deposits “all over.”

“So I am giving you in a few days the number of deposits he has with Chinese joint accounts,” the President said during the closing ceremony of the 26th Mindanao Business Conference in Cagayan de Oro City.

Trillanes said he would sign the waiver on Monday, Sept. 11.

“I will sign the waiver as soon as possible for the AMLC (Anti-Money Laundering Council) and for the Ombudsman, and I will invite the Ombudsman’s fact-finding team and if there is a media available, to idetify the content of the accounts,” Trillanes said.
