- By BETHEENA KAE UNITE

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently reconstituted the National Building Code Review Committee (NBCRC) to further strengthen the implementation of the National Building Code of the Philippines (NBCP) and its implementing rules and regulations.

DPWH said the newly organized committee will be headed by Assistant Secretary Gilberto Reyes.

The committee shall undertake evaluation and recommendation of actions on issues and concerns of different professional technical organizations relative to NBCP.

The National Building Code, also known as Presidential Decree No. 1096, is a government policy covering technical requirements in constructing or renovating buildings and structures in the Philippines to secure the life, health, property, and welfare of the Filipinos.

The committee will also be manned by Bureau of Design Director Dante Potante, Bureau of Construction Director Walter Ocampo, Bureau of Maintenance Director Ernesto Gregorio, Jr., Bureau of Research and Standards Director Reynaldo Tagundado, Legal Service Director Estrella Decena-Zaldivar, Planning Service Director Constante Llanes, Jr., UPMO – Buildings Management Cluster Project Director Patrick Gatan and NBCP-Board of Consultants Chairman Ernesto De Castro.

The review committee will be assisted by a technical working group who will initially review and approve the work or proposals to be made by the NBCP-Board of Consultants.
