Bohol Rep. Rene Relampagos wants to rename Panglao Island to “Dauis-Panglao Island” to rectify geographical misrepresentation and to properly give due recognition to the municipality of Dauis.

He filed House Bill (HB) 6241 proposing to rename the island of Panglao with an area of 94.53 square kilometers to DauisPanglao Island.

Panglao, in the first district of Bohol province, consists of two municipalities: Dauis and Panglao.

The municipality of Dauis, one of the oldest towns in Bohol, is home to 12 barangays.

On the other hand, the municipality of Panglao is a major tourism destination in the province and houses 10 barangays and hosts one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

“For the longest time, the island over which these municipalities are found is referred to as Panglao Island,” Relampagos said.

“Hence, in order to correct geographical misrepresentation, avoid confusion and most importantly, properly give due recognition to the municipality of Dauis,” this bill seeks to rename Panglao Island to Dauis-Panglao Island, in the first district of the province of Bohol,” he said.

HB 6241 tasks the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to be the implementing arm of the proposed Act.
