- By ELLALYN DE VERA RUIZ

Expect improved weather conditions today as the two tropical cyclones were expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Wednesday noon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has lifted all tropical cyclone warnings associated with storm “Maring” (international name “Doksuri”) but warned sea travel remains risky over the western seaboards of Central

and Southern Luzon.

Maring intensified into a storm over the West Philippine Sea, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 105 kph on Wednesday.

It was last spotted 370 kilometers (km) west of Iba, Zambales.

Should it maintain its west-northwest track at 18 kph, Maring will be outside the country’s vicinity by Wednesday afternoon or evening.

PAGASA said Maring will be 565 km north of Pagasa Island by Thursday morning.

Moving out Typhoon “Lannie” (international name “Talim”) on the other hand, was spotted moving towards Ryukyu Islands in Japan.

Before Wednesday noon, Lannie was at 605 km northeast of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It is forecast to move west-northwest at 18 kph.

By Thursday morning, Lannie is expected at 770 km north-northeast of Basco, Batanes.

PAGASA said Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Zambales, Bataan and Batangas can expect cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

Mindanao will likewise have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms, while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies apart from isolated rain showers.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said at least 2,000 families have been affected by the incessant rains brought by storm “Maring” in Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Metro Manila. .

About 1,857 families (7,549 persons) are currently staying in 116 evacuation centers, mostly in the provinces of Laguna and Quezon.
