Butuan fast-tracks work on urban drainage system project
BUTUAN CITY – The round-theclock ground works on the urban drainage system under the Flood Control and Drainage Structures Projects (FCDSP) in this region’s premier and capital city worth more than R1.305 billion is being fast-tracked in an effort to hit its target timeline of completion.
Part of the ongoing flood control projects budgeted under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Calendar Year 2017 Infrastructure program are Butuan City-Cagayan de Oro City-Iligan City Road (Agusan-Misamis Oriental Road), Butuan Doctor’s Hospital-GSIS-K1241+900k1243+270; Butuan City-Cagayan de Oro City-Iligan City Road (Agusan-Misamis Oriental Road), GSIS-Libertad-Bonbon creek- K1243+K1244+302; and Butuan City-Cagayan de Oro City-Iligan City Road (Agusan-Misamis Oriental Road), Jct Ochoa Avenue-Butuan Doctor’s Hospital-K1240+490-K1241+900.
Some of the works currently closely supervised by the DPWH are the channel excavation, installation of box culvert barrels, installation of pipe culvert, drainage canal, river bank protection and river channel improvement, catchment, construction of relief pumping station and widening of carriage way or service road.
The ground works of these FCDSP started on April 3, 2017.
The 24/7 round-the-clock construction of FCDSP has resulted in severe traffic conditions in some parts of the city.
“Kaunting tiis lang. . . this is for the good of everybody and this city is addressing the flood woes,” said DPWH 13 Regional Director Engr. Pol M. Delos Santos, in an exclusive interview with The Manila Bulletin on Wednesday.
He said earth-moving equipments, engineers, technical men and workers of Equi-Parco Construction Company, Adfil Corporation and Gicar Construction, Inc. are on the ground on a roundthe-clock basis aiming to hit their target timeline of completion on March 13, 2018, Director Delos Santos said.
“Our supervising project engineers from the regional office and Butuan City District Engineering Office are also supervising on the ground to see to it that all specified program of works and specified materials needed are in place,” the region’s DPWH chief.
