Robredo visits two towns in Eastern Samar

- By MERLINA HERNANDO-MALIPOT

Vice President Leni Robredo sat down with community leaders and residents during a visit to two Eastern Samar towns to discuss ways to improve their livelihood.

Robredo visited the towns of Hernani and Salcedo on Thursday. Meeting with fisherfolk, tricycle drivers, and sari-sari store owners at Canhugas Nature Park in Hernani, she found out the livelihood problems that beset the members of the community.

Robredo noted there are not enough jobs in Hernani despite the town’s proximity to Canhugas Nature Park, a possible tourist spot.

She said the developing Canhugas will take time. “We cannot hasten this… while we want tourists to visit us, we need to be prepared,” she said.

But once preparations are made, she assured that “it will open a lot of opportunities for you because it will be more accessible.”

Robredo also encouraged the community to create a plan to promote ecotourism in the area. “If there’s no master plan, it might go to waste… if we are the only ones that discuss this, we might not be able to maximize the potential of the place maximize so we need to discuss this further, I think that’s the first step,” she said.

In Salcedo, the Vice President talked with the members of the Farmers Entrepreneurs Association at a demo farm in Barangay Naparaan.
