The US-Israel Biblical link

- By NELLY FAVIS VILLAFUERTE Be joyful and forgiving! (Comments may be sent to Ms. Villafuerte’s email: villafuerte_nelly@ yahoo.com.)

IN Part I last week, I mentioned the names of “some” of the US presidents who were involved in the peace process to divide Israel and to give part of the land of Israel to the Palestinians for the sake of attaining peace in the Middle East. The former US presidents whom I mentioned are George H.W. Bush, William J. Clinton, and George W. Bush (son of George H.W. Bush).

*** Due to lack of space, I was not able to mention in Part I that former President Obama (who was elected US President after George W. Bush) likewise took the same stand as former Presidents George H.W. Bush, William J. Clinton, and George W. Bush.

But former President Obama, unlike the three US Presidents immediately preceding him, went beyond the matter of recommending the division of the Israel land in favor of the Arabs. President Obama entered into a nuclear weapons agreement with Iran, Israel’s nearby enemy – to equip Iran with nuclear weapons within ten (10) years from 1916. Israel’s protest against the Iran nuclear deal was not heeded by former President Obama who claimed that the nuclear deal will be an instrument of peace rather than war in the Middle East. And to think that on November 7, 2008, in his first press conference after winning the presidential election, the President-elect Obama said, ‘Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon, I believe is unacceptable. And we have to mount an international effort to prevent that from happening.” (Quoted from the book, “Why Israel Can’t Wait” by Jerome R. Corsi). What further alarmed the Israelites was then President Obama’s speech in Cairo on June 4, 2009 – Obama’s first major foreign policy speech after his election to the presidency. In his Cairo speech, he pronounced that he favored the division of the land of Israel as the Arabs wanted. And guess who were among Obama’s guests. There were ten (10) members of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB). MB (an Islamic organization founded in Egypt) members are enemies of Israel.

To put it bluntly, Israel’s relationship with then President Obama turned for the worse. No wonder, many were getting confused and were raising the question: Is America on collision course with God? However, the recent November 8, 2016, US election (where Donald Trump, a US president, not belonging to the Democratic Party of President Obama won) put an end to the alarming apprehension of many that America may be on collision with God. President Donald Trump has been openly supporting Israel. He is also against abortion and same-sex marriage. And more, trump’s Vice President Mike Pence is a Biblebelieving Christian (a born-again Christian) who once said in one of his speeches during his campaign: “My loyalty, before anything else is to God. My family comes next; then my political party.”

*** One may wonder why many are saying that the USA is a nation of prophetic destiny – despite the fact that USA is not directly mentioned in Biblical prophecy. Considering too that USA is only less than 250 years old and, therefore, much younger than the nations of Biblical times that are featured in Biblical prophecy. While this may be so, the USA certainly comes under the phrase “other nations” (referring to all nations in general not directly mentioned in the Bible). There is a Biblical verse that says: “God will shake all nations.” (Haggai 2:6-7)

*** As mentioned in Part I, America’s past generosity to Israel is awesome. In fact, the world knows that America stands with Israel. It is often said that America was providentially linked with Israel even before the conception and birth of Israel as a nation. From the Biblical account, we know that God scattered the Jews when they disobeyed God’s mandate that “No other god may share my glory; I will not let idols share my praise.” (Isaiah 42:8) We also know that Jews worshipped man-made idols made of gold, silver, bronze, or wood formed by human hands, “… that have mouths, but cannot speak; eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear; noses, but cannot smell. They have hands, but cannot feel; feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.” (Psalm 115:1-8 New International Version) Remember the “golden calf ” which the Jews made while waiting for Moses to come down from Mount Sinai – the meeting place between God and Moses?

*** Historical accounts also show that millions of Jews who were expelled/ persecuted/escaped from Europe (like Spain, Russia and England) found a home in America. One may ask: Why were there Jews in Europe? Because the Jews were scattered in various parts of the world for more than 2,000 years when they committed the sin of idolatry (worshipping man-made idols). God punished the Jews by scattering them around the world. And God “regathered” the scattered Jews back in Israel as prophesied in the Bible. (To be continued)
