Classes suspended in Bulacan due to nationwide jeepney strike
The Stop and Go Coalition transport group yesterday said that its planned transport strike in protest of the planned jeepney phase-out will push through today , September 25, which will may adverselt affect commuters in Metro Manila and nearby areas.
Some schools have announced the suspension of classes and office work due to the scheduled transport strike today. They are Malolos City, Bulacan - all levels (public and private), Bocaue, Bulacan - all levels (public and private), and Sta. Maria, Bulacan - all levels (public and private).
Stop and Go Coalition president Jun Magno, however, expressed the group’s intentionand willingness to hold dialogues with the government if the situation presents itself.
Aside from the jeepney phase-out, Stop and Go Coalition is likewise opposing the jeepney modernization program, citing the exorbitant cost of e-jeepneys which is the proposed replacement for the traditional jeepney models.
Magno insisted that an e-jeepney unit, at 11.6 million each, is too steep.
To the rescue
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) expressed its readiness to assist stranded commuters if the need arises.
The agency said it will deploy buses, trucks, and other government vehicles to ferry the commuters to their destinations.
Vehicles in seven staging areas namely in Monumento (southbound); SM Marikina; Luneta Parade Ground; HK Town Plaza in Pasay City; Technohub in Quezon City; MMDA Parking Lot and camp Aguinaldo will provide free rides to commuters.
