PAL implements discounts for senior citizens and PWDs

- By EMMIE V. ABADILLA

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is now granting 20 percent Senior Citizen (SC) and Person With Disability (PWD) discounts along with a 12 percent value-added tax (VAT) exemption for domestic flights booked online.

Resident Filipino citizens purchasing regular fare tickets can now avail of the discounts and exemptions, which the airline has been granting via ticket office transactions, when they book via www. philippineairlines.com.

However, these are not applicable to other taxes, fees and charges and ancillary services, like extra baggage, or to tickets issued as a reward or prize.

To avail of the discount/exemption, one must log on to the PAL website, go to the section “Book a Flight” and click origin and desti- nation, class of service and number of passengers.

At the airport check-in counter, a Senior Citizen must bring an OSCA (Office of Sr. Citizens Affairs) ID, along with one other identification document which can be a Philippine passport or any government-issued ID indicating date of birth, such as a Driver’s License, voters ID, SSS/GSIS ID, PRC card or postal ID.

In the same way, a PWD must also bring a PWD ID at the airport check-in counter in combination with a Philippine passport or any governmentissued ID.

Failure to present the required identification will result in either the collection of 20% discount and 12% VAT based on the current applicable fare at the time of check-in in accordance with the fare restrictions applicable to the ticket, plus a fine of R1,500.00 or forfeiture of ticket under Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) Resolution No. 41.
