Edgar Allan Guzman on his return to GMA, his role on ‘My Korean Jagiya,’ and updates on his personal life

Through the years, Edgar Allan Guzman has been proving he is a good actor by stepping out of his comfort zone to play mostly gay roles on TV and in films.

These days, Edgar, or E.A., is getting noticed for playing kontrabida on “My Korean Jagiya.” Why, he actually receives hate messages from viewers who regard his character “nakakabwisit.”

“May nagdi-DM (direct message on Instagram) sa akin na, ‘Huy ’wag kang lalabas sa madaling araw kasi ’yung kuya ko bwisit na bwisit sa yo.’ Tapos meron pang nagsabi na baka matokhang daw ako,” he said, laughing.

He doesn’t take it negatively at all.

“Affected sila, so ibig sabihin effective ’yung pag-arte ko. Kaya okay lang kung hate nila ako sa ngayon,” he said.

In the story, he plays Ryan Alba, Gia’s (Heart Evangelista) selfish, user and frugal ex-boyfriend who exchanged her for another girl.

E.A. is the complete opposite in real life. The actor shared he never used anyone to achieve his dreams.

“Ako nga po ’yung ginagamit eh!” he said in jest. “Never pa po akong nanggamit ng ibang tao physically or kahit para sa pera. Pero siyempre hindi rin ako nagpapaabuso, inalagaan ko ’yung sarili ko.”

Back home

“My Korean Jagiya” marks E.A’s return to GMA Network. Recall that it was 11 years ago when he joined a segment on “Eat Bulaga!” He admittedly is still adjusting. “Siyempre bagong ambiance, bagong ka-trabaho,” he shared. “’Yung first three days ko na taping dito sa show, wala akong makausap. Eh ako, palabiro akong tao so nangapa ako kahit paano, pero okay na ngayon.” He hopes to work with Kapuso actors Sanya Lopez and Kris Bernal. E.A. considers himself lucky to be working with Heart and Korean actor Alexander Lee on “My Korean Jagiya.” The actor describes Heart as “very maalaga.”

“Like every 15 minutes, lalapit siya tapos tatanungin ako, ‘Hey. Are you okay, Do you want anything?’ So ako, natutuwa ako kasi sabi ko nga, sobrang swerte ko sa mga ka-trabaho ko, kasi sila talaga ’yung walang ere, walang wall na nakaharang sa relasyon namin bilang artista,” he enthused, adding the actress even invited them for an outing in Sorsogon. And Alexander? “Nako, mabait ’yung tao na ’yun. Alam mo ’yung kahit sikat siya na Korean actor, magaling makisama. Wala siyang problema makipag-kwentuhan sa amin,” he related. “Tsaka nakakatuwa din kasi sobrang disiplinado siya, in fact ayaw niya matulog sa set kahit wala siyang take. Pero ngayon medyo natututo na siya.”

On what fans should expect in the coming episodes of the show, E.A. revealed, “Marami pang cute lines and kilig scenes. Ang galing lang talaga ng mga writers eh. Swak na swak ’yung mga linyahan kaya sana abangan pa ng mga tao ’yung mga mangyayari sa

show. I’m sure, matutuwa sila.”

Family guy

E.A. has been single for months now.

It was early this year when he parted ways with “Trops” actress Shaira Mae after four years of being a couple.

At 28, E.A. is in no rush to have a new relationship. Career, he said, is his top priority now.

“Wala pa din naman kasi sa plano ko ’yung magpakasal. Bata pa naman ako, I believe love can wait naman.”

The actor is still living with his family and he has no plans of being independent anytime soon.

“At magpagawa man ako ng sariling bahay, malapit lang din sa pamilya ko. Hindi ko kaya na hindi sila makita. Lalo na ’yung mga pamangkin, kahit may ginagawa ako, kapag tinawag nila ako, ititigil ko talaga para sa kanila,” he shared. Does he have any vices, we asked. He proudly said, “Never ako nagyosi. Alak, paminsan-minsan. Tapos ngayon, healthy lifestyle ako. Nagda-diet talaga ako, three months ng walang rice.”
