- By FRANCIS T. WAKEFIELD

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NFSL) has a new commander. Commodore Adeluis S. Bordado assumed the top post, replacing Commodore Giovanni Carlo J. Bacordo during formal change of command ceremonies last week at the Naval Station Julhasan Arasain, Rawis, Legazpi City. Philippine Navy Vice Commander Rear Admiral Rafael G. Mariano witnessed the turnover.

Before assuming the post as NFSL commander, Bordado was the commander of the Sealift Amphibious Force, Philippine Fleet. He also served as the deputy commander of the command in 2015.

In his speech, Bordado encouraged the officers and personnel to continue what the command has started to establish a secured backdoor to mainland Luzon and maintain a physically and psychologically sound environment conducive to growth and development.

On the other hand, Bacordo thanked both the previous and the present Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy Admiral Ceasar C. Taccad (retired) and Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph S. Mercado, for the trust and confidence they have given during his tour of duty.

Bacordo also expressed his gratitude to all the officers, enlisted personnel, civilian employee, and stakeholders of the Naval Forces Southern Luzon for their invaluable service which resulted to the many significant accomplishments of the command.

Under the leadership of Bacordo, NAVFORSOL was able to conduct numerous anti-insurgency operations, joint anti-illegal logging operations, antiillegal fishing operations, anti-illegal drug operations, anti-illegal fishing operations, and provide maritime security as well as protecting the environment and other resources of its area of responsibility.
