Cloud adoption can make or break your company—Fujitsu

Cloud computing has all the ideal advantages, Cricket Santiago, CEO of Fujitsu Philippines, Inc., said that moving to the cloud can either make or break your company.

“Cloud computing offers an array of benefits. However, companies should also consider the security of all the data that they store or manage in its platform. For cloud service providers, this issue boils down to their capacity in delivering risk management strategies and processes,” said Santiago.

Before subscribing to a cloud service provider, it is important to know the different cloud platforms that it offers, especially that each of them has different capacities in terms of security, bandwidth, and costs.

Most of the providers offer services based on a public cloud. This type of cloud eliminates upfront costs intended for purchasing and maintenance since the service provider delivers all of its requirements—hardware, application, and bandwidth costs. However, the security risks of this platform are high as several organizations share in the utilization of its resources. Thus, it is unsafe for processing sensitive data.

For companies that need a higher level of security and control, providers also offer services based on a private cloud. This cloud platform provides flexibility, scalability, provisioning, automation, and monitoring features for a single customer only.

However, because of the various demands for the cloud, another type, called the hybrid cloud is also developed. This type of cloud has both the capabilities of the private and public cloud, making it applicable for lowering costs in utilizing private cloud by integrating some public cloud services for all non-sensitive operations.

Aside from these platforms, businesses should also check where the data will reside since the storage location significantly impacts privacy and confidentiality. Some cloud service providers also deliver their platforms in different locations, which have different legal obligations in processing and storing the data.
