- By FRED LOBO

CUSTOMS Commissioner Isidro Lapeña has vowed major reforms at the Bureau of Customs (BOC) through the reshuffling of top officials and the firing of corrupt personnel.

Perform or perish, he sternly warned. *** Lapeña ordered an end to the controversial “tara” system at the agency. No more “tara” no more lagay!, he said.

*** The BOC chief relieved eight district collectors for their failure to meet collection targets. Translation: Bawal ang tamad!

*** Lapeña likewise reshuffled 30 section chiefs for benchmarking or setting a fixed value for different types of shipments.

Itapon ang mga tamad at corrupt, the Punisher ordered.

*** The Customs head said that the affected collectors were placed in the “freezer” or transferred. Their pockets will feel cold, too

*** Lapeña also ordered a stop to the giving of “tara” resulting in lower government revenue. “No more pasalubong!

*** “I am not satisfied with what is coming out. I want to see the correct valuation of goods,” Lapeña insisted. The lament of the tax corrector.

***

The new BOC chief announced that has set the target for the bureau to collect P50 billion monthly, Doable and possible, he said.

*** The BOC head warned that “there will be more reshuffling if BOC personnel do not contribute to the reforms. Cooperate or get kicked!

*** However, Lapeña said that 560 BOC employees were promoted and given new positions in the bureau.

Reward system will still apply, folks.

*** Lapeña added that he will speed up the release of container vans, even those with “on alert” status, urging their consignees to cooperate with the BOC.

Yes to “arya,” no to ‘tara!’
