Guns in their DNA

- By FLORO MERCENE

AMERICA’S fascination with guns is in their DNA, according to this armchair biologists. Nations achieved superpower status by colonizing or enslaving weaker countries and the United States, despite its democratic pretensions, is not an exemption.

Today, America is the lone superpower, armed to the teeth with dozens of aircraft carriers, hundreds of fighter jets, and thousands of nuclear weapons.

No country in modern history could equal the US in the number of wars it waged around the planet.

“In the past 30 years, America has had 13 wars at a cost of US$14.2 trillion,” said Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, the world’s largest online retailer, at a forum in Davos, Switzerland.

American white supremacists and Ku-Klux-Klan followers used to dominate the world with their financial, cultural, academic, and legal institutions. They dominate the National Rifle Association (NRA) is dominated by WASP.

Some high-profile NRA members are former President George Bush, Alaska governor Sarah Palin, actors Tom Selleck, and the late actor Charlton Heston, the longest-serving NRA president.

Heston famously held a rifle over his head at an NRA convention following the Columbine High School massacre and told gun control advocates they would have to take it “from my cold, dead hands.”

John Wayne was the epitome of an American cowboy, deadly with his trusted Colt 44.

The golden-maned Donald Trump has now taken over the helm of American leadership.

Remember Hillary Clinton’s warning during their presidential debate?

“A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons.”

The world seems nearer the deadline on the doomsday clock again with Trump in charge.

Trump has been taunting North Korea’s Kim Jung-Un with nuclear annihilation.

Sen. Bob Corker, who engaged Trump in a public feud said Trump is setting the country “on the path to World War III.”
