The lover boy in Dennis Trillo

- By REGINA MAE PARUNGAO

He follows only one rule when it comes to matters of the heart: Give it your all. No wonder even his exes have a soft spot for Dennis Trillo.

“’Pag nakahanap ka ng someone na hindi ka matatakot ipakita ’yung totoo mong pagkatao… someone na pwede mong sabihin kahit ano kasi open ang communication niyo sa isa’t-isa at pwede mong i-share ’yung mga dreams mo sa buhay, ’yun ang ideal relationship,” he said in an interview. An ideal partner, the actor added, should be honest and lives with integrity.

Asked if he sees girlfriend Jennylyn Mercado as “the one” for him, Dennis said he really hopes so.

Time heals all wounds

Looking back, it’s also no secret Dennis has had “colorful yet complicated love life” with other women. Despite that, the actor believes there is nothing wrong remaining friends with them all as “time heals all wounds.”

“’Yan (being friends) ang ideal na gusto kong mangyari talaga pero siyempre bawat relationship meron ’yang nangyari na minsan hindi maiiwasan na magkasamaan kayo ng loob,” he explained.

“(Pero) kahit papaano at ease ako sa kanila (ngayon). Mas maganda kasi ’yung ganon kasi at the end of the day, sayang naman ’yung pinagsamahan niyo kung hindi kami magiging mag-kaibigan ’di ba?” He noted some people are better off as friends.

On notions that he is “the one that got away” to his exes, Dennis didn’t know what to say.

Refreshing role

Dennis might not feel he is “the one that got away” in real life but he is one on-screen.

The so-called Kapuso Drama King will play the ex-boyfriend of Max Collins, Rhian Ramos and Lovi Poe on GMA’s “The One That Got Away” helmed by Maryo J. delos Reyes.

In it, he is Liam, a smart and handsome entrepreneur who likes women with sense of humor which is the common trait of his

exes: Zoe (Rhian), Darcy (Max) and Alex (Lovi).

Dennis is excited over his character deeming it “very refreshing.”

“After ng ‘Mulawin,’ na puro action, it’s nice lang na bumalik ako sa medyo light lang ’yung theme, so I’m very happy na sa akin binigay itong role,” he said.

This is also the first time Dennis will be working with Lovi, Rhian and Max on a teleserye. He looks forward to forming new camaraderie and on-screen chemistry with them.

“I know na very talented silang tatlo and excited akong makasama sila. Bumalik ako sa rom-com tapos times three pa.”

Do Rhian, Lovi and Max have similar qualities with his exes?

“Kahit papano naman, nakaka-relate ako ng konti. Bawat character naman nila eh, paiba-iba. So siguro mayroon ding konting similiraties.”

If anything, Dennis shared he will never be picky when it comes to accepting projects despite having acting trophies on his shelf.

“Kahit anong trabaho naman po – whether it’s light or heavy – may kanya-kanyang bigat pa din.
