6 bolt jail in Laguna; prison guard hurt
STA. CRUZ, Laguna — Six inmates escaped from the Laguna Provincial Jail over the weekend in what seemed like a well-planned jailbreak that resulted in the near-fatal shooting of a prison guard.
Senior Superintendent Cecilio Ison Jr., Laguna Police Provincial Office (PPO) director, said the hunt is on for the six fugitives who, during their escape at 11 a.m. Sunday, shot and critically wounded jail guard Norbert Malabanan.
Ison identified the six as Rhandel Bucal Vale, a murder suspect, of Famy, Laguna; Rio Amihan Mahilom, facing illegal firearms charges, of Caloocan City; Rayman Caparas Raymundo (murder), of Biñan City; Teddy Sarte Bucal (murder), of Mabitac, Laguna; Romel Esmer Macaraig (carnapping), of San Pablo City; and Verjust Daldi Dizon (illegal drugs), of Pagsanjan, Laguna.
Ison declined to give further details on the incident except that it was under investigation and that all efforts were being undertaken to recapture the fugitives.
A sketchy report from the Laguna Action Center (LAC) said the six inmates, one of them armed with a .38caliber handgun, attacked on-duty jail guards Malabanan, Alfonso Mariano, and Miguel Arceta.
Malabanan who was shot several times in the body is now in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital.
LAC Head Rommel Palacol confirmed that the six escaped prisoners used a maroon Toyota Revo as their getaway vehicle.
