VP Leni in Thailand for food security meet
Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday left for Thailand to join Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Yim Chhay Ly and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the Asia-Pacific Summit that will “discuss practical and evidencebased steps for food security and nutrition.”
Robredo was among the foreign leaders invited by the United Nations to speak today, November 10, before the regional symposium on “Sustainable Food Systems for Healthy Diets and Improved Nutrition.”
According to the Office of the Vice President, the UNFAO organized the event, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the World Bank.
Sirindhorn is the UN Food and Agricultural Organization Special Ambassador for Zero Hunger in Asia and the Pacific.
The symposium will be attended by parliamentarians, policy-makers, academicians, representatives from UN agencies, development partners, and other stakeholders from 30 countries within the region.
The gathering aims to “help the region achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture,” said OVP.
The country’s second highest official departed for her two-day working visit to Thailand onboard a Philippine Airlines flight.
Before Robredo’s speaking engagement, she was set to meet members of the Filipino community in Bangkok Thursday night.
