AFP tries to extend UNTV Cup win streak

Former champion Armed Forces of the Philippine­s (AFP) tries to extend their winning streak to four games when it collides with Bureau of Fire Protection while Department of Health takes on GSIS in a vital match in the 6th UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center.

Having won their first three games with nary a trouble, the AFP Cavaliers are installed heavy favorites in their 5 p.m. Group A showdown with the BFP Firefighte­rs in the tournament presented by UNTV.

Out to lead the Cavaliers are former Letran star Boyet Bautista, Alvin Zuniga, Wilfredo Casulla and Jeffrey Quimbao while ex-PBA players Rob Wainwright and Gilbert Malabanan will spearhead the Firefighte­rs who are coming off an impressive 89-68 win over the DOH Health Achievers.

Wainwright is averaging 18 points per contest while the wily Bautista is likewise doing well with 14.3 points per game in the event offering P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.

But all eyes will be on the 2 p.m. encounter between DOH and GSIS who are both in dire need of a victory to keep their flickering second round hopes alive.

The two, along with the Firefighte­rs have similar 1-2 records although the GSIS are likewise fresh off a 105-83 drubbing of the COA Enablers.
