Tabora gains semis

Krizziah Lyn Tabora moved two games away from winning another Bowling World Cup crown for the Philippines by crashing the women's semifinals Friday in Hermosillo, Mexico.

The 27-year-old Filipino pintoppler beat six of her eight rivals in State 3 of the prestigious international bowling competition to score 8799 pinfalls in 40 games and rank third in the semifinals.

She will meet Colombia's Rocio Restrepo in the one-game knockout semis for the right to advance to the finals against the winner between frontrunning Jenny Wegner of Sweden and fourthplacer Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman of Malaysia.

Wegner topped State 3 with 8914 pins, followed by Restrepo who tallied 8838, Tabora and Rahman, who posted 8676.

The winners of the two single-game knockout matches were scheduled to dispute the title Saturday night (early morning of Sunday in Manila). Both men's and women's finals will be played in one game.

Venezuela's Ildemaro Ruiz Jr., Malaysia's Ahmad Muaz Mohd Fishol, USA's Jakob Butturff and Colombia's Oscar Rodriguez made it to the men's semifinals.

Ruiz carded 8966, Fishol posted 8961, Butturff rolled 8906 and Rodriguez finished with 8906.
