App-based monitoring set for DPWH projects
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is tapping geotagging technology via the Infra-Track Application (App) to monitor the status of projects and spot and deter ghost projects.
“Soon, DPWH project and monitoring engineers of Regional and District Engineering Offices nationwide will be required to capture and submit geotagged photographs of projects before, during, and after construction activities,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said during the launch of the app last week.
Infra-Track App, according to the agency, is a simple, easy to use application that uses geotagging technology to help the DPWH Management monitor the progress of the projects virtually.
“With the Infra-Track App, we are guaranteed that, indeed, projects are being implemented in a particular area and we do not waste public funds for unfinished works, more so to non-existent projects,” Villar added.
Infra-Track App has two major components, the mobile app which is used to take geotagged photos, and the web application where you can find all the photos uploaded along with project details.
It was developed by the DPWH’s Information Management Service to support the existing Projects and Contracts Monitoring Application.
