Heavy rains expected in Mindanao due to LPA

The Philippine Atmospheri­c, Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Services Administra­tion (PAGASA) warned of possible flash floods or landslides in the Caraga, Davao and Soccsksarg­en regions due to a prevailing low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao.

PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 295 kilometers east of General Santos City before noon yesterday.

The weather disturbanc­e is expected to bring moderate to occasional heavy rains and thundersto­rms over Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and Misamis Oriental.

PAGASA warned residents in these areas of possible flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thundersto­rms.

PAGASA said there will be possible isolated heavy rains, lightning and strong winds.

By Tuesday, PAGASA said the intertropi­cal convergenc­e zone will prevail over Visayas and Mindanao, while the easterlies will persist across Luzon.

Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao and Northern Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light to occasional moderate rain showers and isolated thundersto­rms and at times accompanie­d with lightning.

Eastern Luzon will be cloudy with light rains and isolated thundersto­rms, while the rest of Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy with isolated rain showers.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy with passing light rains and isolated thundersto­rms.
