LPA threatens Southern Luzon

- By ELLALYN DE VERA-RUIZ

The low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao has dissipated on Monday but another one was spotted west of Southern Luzon, which may induce moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Palawan.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA southeast of General Santos City has dissipated, but another LPA was estimated at 100 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa City.

PAGASA warned of moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, which may trigger flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, the warm and humid easterlies coming from the Pacific Ocean will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Southern Leyte, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay.

Flash floods and landslides caused by scattered light to moderate and at times heavy rains, as well as lightning and strong winds are likely over these areas, PAGASA said.

It added that Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
