Traf­fic woes cause class sus­pen­sions

BAGUIO CITY — Mayor Mauri­cio Do­mo­gan sus­pended classes in the pre-school, el­e­men­tary, and high school lev­els in the city early morn­ing yes­ter­day, cit­ing a “very se­ri­ous traf­fic prob­lem.” Do­mo­gan’s dec­la­ra­tion at 5:30 a.m. Tues­day cov­ered both pub­lic and pri­vate schools as a heavy in­flux of do­mes­tic tourists in this sum­mer cap­i­tal of the coun­try was ob­served since the week­end. Work and classes are sus­pended in Metro Manila, Pam­panga, Bu­la­can and Tar­lac this week as the coun­try hosts the 31st As­so­ci­a­tion of South­east Asian Na­tions (ASEAN) Sum­mit and Re­lated Meet­ings. The mayor said he ex­pects the hol­i­day crowd to be in the city un­til Wed­nes­day, along with it the dif­fi­cult-toman­age traf­fic con­ges­tion. (Zaldy C. Co­manda)
