Tectonic quakes continue to shake Surigao, Davao provinces

BUTUAN CITY – Mild tectonic earthquake­s continue to shake Surigao and Davao provinces, the Philippine Institute of Volcanolog­y and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. However, the state agency said these new tremors that struck the provinces of Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental did not cause any damage or injury. In its latest bulletin, Phivolcs said a 2.7 magnitude tremor was registered at 3:50 a.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 14). The epicenter was plotted 47 kilometers (km) southeast of Cagwait town, Surigao del Sur province, it said. The new tremor had a depth of 27 km. Earlier, a magnitude 2.9 earthquake was also recorded at 2:47 a.m. Nov. 14, Phivolcs said. The epicenter was traced 59 km northeast of Baganga, Davao Oriental, with a depth of 20 km, it said. At 1:40 a.m., another 2.5 magnitude earthquake was registered and its epicenter was located 45 km southeast of nearby Tarragona town of that same province of Davao Oriental, with a depth of 110 km, the state agency said.
