Sta. Lucia dumps Victoria-UST
Games Tomorrow (The Arena, San Juan City) 4:15 p.m. – Cocolife vs Iriga City 7 p.m. – Generika-Ayala vs F2 Logistics
Sta. Lucia finally entered the winner’s circle yesterday as it routed Victoria Sports-University of Santo Tomas, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19, in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Realtors banked on their aggressive attacks late in the first two sets before dominating the third to snap their three-game losing skid and improve to 1-3.
The win not only pulled Sta. Lucia out of the cellar it shared with UST but also tied it with the Iriga City Oragons.
The Tigresses, however, skidded to their third straight defeat in as many outings to remain at the bottom.
Import Bohdana Anisova spearheaded the Lady Realtors with 13 points including 11 kills, even as foreign reinforcement Marisa Field and Pam Lastimosa chipped in 11 points apiece.
Lastimosa highlighted her performance with nine hits, while Field had three blocks and two aces.
Sta. Lucia coach Jerry Yee credited his players’ all-around offense, but admitted they still need to improve on their defense.
“Yung depensa namin may butas pa. Marami pa rin kaming lapses, but we’re trying to cut down our errors. Baby steps,” said Yee.
UST started strong with kills on all angles but saw its floor defense collapse as Sta. Lucia erased an 18-15 deficit by scoring 10 of the last 11 points for the first-set victory.
