Engineer killed in ambush
A49-year-old mechanical engineer was killed when motorcycle-riding assailants peppered shots into his car in Binondo, Manila Monday night, police said.
Reynaldo Macapanas, a resident of General Trias, Cavite, was declared dead on arrival at Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center due to multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body.
Macapanas was driving his black Isuzu MU-X car with conduction sticker CR5165 along Delpan Street at 7 p.m. when the incident occurred, according to Police Officer 3 Aldeen Legaspi.
Legaspi said that as soon as Macapanas reached Delpan Sports Complex, the riding-in-tandem suspects opened fire towards his vehicle.
Macapanas lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the sidewalk while the gunmen immediately sped off towards Delpan Bridge, Legaspi added.
PO1 Rey Orejas, who was near the crime scene and on his way home, rushed Macapanas to the hospital after a witness reported the incident to him. However, Macapanas died.
It was learned that Macapanas was supposed to meet a certain Evelyn Sy in the latter’s house in Binondo district to discuss a business proposal.
Macapanas’ wife, Nenita, told probers that she believes the attack might have had a connection with the victim’s business deals.
The bullet-riddled vehicle was turned over at the MPD-Headquarters in United Nations Avenue, Ermita district for further investigation.
Police are now conducting a follow up investigation on Macapanas’ ambush.
