The Bases Conversion and Development Authority’s (BCDA) said it recently turned over R1.2 billion to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, bringing its total contribution to R4.8 billion this year.

In a statement, BCDA said it has raised a total of R36.6 billion for the AFP modernization program which is allocated for the purchase of military equipment to ensure sustained capability upgrade of the Armed Forces.

Of the amount, R25.2 billion accounts for the AFP share while R11.4 billion is earmarked for the replication of military facilities such as housing units, hospitals, churches, and museums, among others. This is in line with BCDA’s mandate to strengthen the Armed Forces while building great cities.

Since its creation in 1992, BCDA has contributed in strengthening and enhancing the capabilities of the AFP through the disposition and development of former military bases into productive civilian use, which now serve as the country’s economic hubs like the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City and Newport City in Pasay City.

Under President Duterte’s plan to modernize the AFP and provide a better life for our heroes in uniform, the BCDA has also committed to increase its support for the AFP’s pension and retirement fund.

Further, as part of its corporate social responsibility program, BCDA allocated a R5-million fund for the hospitalization assistance of wounded soldiers who fought in the Marawi siege. BCDA partnered with locator St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City and Quezon City in providing treatment to around 50 wounded soldiers whose medical requirements cannot be accommodated in government military hospitals for lack of medical equipment and facilities.

In light of the recent liberation of Marawi, the BCDA, together with the City of Taguig, Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation (FBDC) and in cooperation with the Department of National Defense (DND), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) pays tribute to the soldiers and policemen who fought in Marawi through an interactive art installation exhibit at the Bonifacio High Street in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig from November 21 to December 5, 2017.
