OVP launches ‘Istorya ng Pagasa’ film festival
The Office of the Vice President has launched the ‘Istorya ng Pagasa’ film festival which will feature selected films featuring the stories of hope of Filipinos in Ayala Cinemas.
“We have a roving photo gallery already. But how many of the passersby would stop to read it. It is only a few,” Vice President Leni Robredo said during the film fetival launch at Ayala Museum in Makati City.
“We think it is not enough. We have a social media presence already, but we don’t have enough videos or films of our stories,” she added.
The Office of The Vice President launched the short film festival in partnership with Ayala Foundation.
It is also supported by Globe Telecom and Ayala Land Inc.
Contest mechanics The film festival is a nationwide, alldigital film competition for original short documentaries that will showcase the inspiring stories of Filipinos.
The entries should not exceed five minutes.
Organizers set the deadline of accepting entries for the short film festival on February 25, 2018.
Ten finalists will then be chosen during the awarding ceremony that will be held on June 12 next year.
‘Hope amid adversity’ Robredo said her office launched the film festival to “let every Filipino to know of these stories of hope that we may reclaim our unity and positivity in these trying times.”
“We realize we are using social media a lot and the short videos are the ones who really catch the attention of people who have very short attention spans,” she explained.
Of these finalists, there will be top 3 films, but only one of them will be proclaimed as the “best film” at the awards night.
“The Ayala Group of Companies agreed the [top 3] winners of the competition will be shown in Ayala Cinemas before the regular showing of feature,” she said.
Ayala tieup The Vice President recalled when she attended an event called Istorya ng Pagbasa, in which she patterned her short film festival project, at Ayala Museum last year.
“It feels right to commemorate our first year if it will be held in Ayala Museum,” she said.
She recognized the Ayala Foundation as a reliable partner in her project.
Ayala Foundation President Raul Maranan said their ideals are “truly aligned” with the “laudable” project of the OVP.
“Yes, there is so much goodness around us. We have just to remain open and hopeful,” he said. “We just have to focus, believe, become, and belong to a community of doers.”
