More DOLE clinics

CEBU CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Visayas will open more DOLE clinics in the region next year.

DOLE Regional Director Cyril Ticao said the establishment of DOLE clinics at Public Employment Services Office in each local government unit demonstrates the department’s intention to seek advice from officials on efficient and effective delivery of services.

“We purposely do this because it is our goal of bringing the DOLE more closely to the community by providing them pre-employment facilitation, labor standards enforcement, dispute resolution, and livelihood assistance, among others,” Tiaco said.

The project will be the center of the department’s public assistance at the community level offering information, services, and referral to appropriate agencies on matters such as local and overseas employment, entitlements under general labor standards and occupational safety and health standards, labor relations, and livelihood assistance.

Last week, a DOLE Clinic was opened in Naga City in Cebu.

Naga Mayor Kristine Chiong welcomed the opening of the clinic, saying “development does not only involve the city having newly constructed facilities and infrastructure projects but also the common people having a means of living on their own.”

DOLE Cebu Provincial Field Office Head Maria Grace Diaz said that with the establishment of the DOLE Clinic in Naga, residents need not travel to Cebu City anymore.

Right after the launching, a memorandum of agreement was signed between the city government and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for establishing an OWWA Help Desk at the same office as the clinic.

OWWA Acting Regional Director Mae Codilla said the assistance desk is aimed at protecting and promoting the welfare of overseas workers and their families who are residents of the city.

The regional office has conducted orientations with the Officers and board of directors of the regional PESO managers in Lapu-Lapu City.
