Plans up for Bohol as next destination of Korean film makers
TAGBILARAN CITY — There is a big possibility that the next “Koreanovela” or Korean-made movie you will be watching will be made in Bohol.
The possibility surfaced after the Korean agent of the Philippine Airlines Korea (PAL Korea) told Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto about a plan to make Bohol a film-making destination for Koreans.
Koreans are looking to do some location shooting in Bohol and the plan was bared last Friday during Chatto’s visit to the East Asian nation, a statement from the Effective Developmental Communications Unit (Edcom) of the Provincial Capitol Tuesday said.
Chatto met with PAL’s Korea agent Jin Woo Jung at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul. Jung’s family, who also owns RAKSO Holdings Co. Ltd., is exclusively handling PAL’s business operations in Korea.
Jung discussed with Chatto and PAL officials from Manila the aggressive promotions for Bohol and the island province’s tourist attractions through film making.
Bohol is unique because it has its own film-making support body whose goal is to help film makers during their operations in the province.
The provincial government has long sought to attract film makers to Bohol and use the scenery as backdrop in their movies at the same time provide exposure to local artistic talents.
The province is looking at the possibility of getting more filmmakers do location shooting here to realize the dream of forming “Boholywood” – a center for film-making not just in the Visayas, but in the entire country.
Early this year, the provincial government formed the Bohol Film Commission (Bofilmco), which will take the helm of bringing filmmakers to Bohol.
The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) with Liza DiñoSeguerra at the forefront, expressed support to the formation of the commission that will take care of the needs of filmmakers who will use Bohol as a location for the shoots.
