ABS-CBN keeps nationwide lead; GMA 7 strengthen­s in urban areas

The network war still rages as the year is about to close with ABS-CBN still being the most watched TV network in the country while rival GMA Network strengthen­ing its ratings lean in urban areas nationwide.

ABS-CBN said it attracted more TV households in November with an average audience share of 46 percent, or 12 points higher than GMA’s 34 percent, according to data from Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN also sustained its lead in all territorie­s, including Mega Manila where it garnered an average audience share of 37 percent versus GMA’s 34 percent, and in Metro Manila, where it got 41 percent against GMA’s 27 percent.

It also led other networks in other areas such as Total Luzon with 44 percent versus GMA’s 35 percent, in Total Visayas with 54 percent versus GMA’s 27 percent, and in Total Mindanao with 49 percent versus GMA’s 34 percent.

For the whole month of November, ABS-CBN said it was unbeatable across all time blocks, especially in primetime where it recorded an average audience share of 51 percent, or 19 points higher than GMA’s 32 percent.

ABS-CBN also remained the leader in the morning block (6 a.m.-12 nn), where it scored an average audience share of 41 percent versus GMA’s 31 percent, the noontime block (12 nn-3 p.m.), where it hit 47 percent versus GMA’s 34 percent, and the afternoon block (3 p.m.-6 p.m.), where it registered 42 percent versus GMA’s 40 percent.

Meanwhile, the latest data from Nielsen Phils.TV Audience Measuremen­t showed that, GMA ruled over its counterpar­ts in the National Urban Television Audience Measuremen­t (NUTAM) last month with an average total day people audience share of 43.2 percent, leading ABS-CBN’s 38.2 percent.

GMA also posted winning numbers across all day parts in NUTAM. The Network recorded 38.8 percent people audience share in the morning block versus ABS-CBN’s 35.9 percent.

According to GMA, its afternoon lineup consistent­ly dominated the 12 nn to 6 p.m. block with 47 percent; way ahead of ABS-CBN’s 36.2 percent.

GMA’s strong showing continued in the evening block with 42.1 percent versus competitio­n’s 40.8 percent.

Likewise, GMA toppled its rival network in all time blocks in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respective­ly account for 76 and 59 percent of all urban viewers in the country.

In Urban Luzon, the Network registered a total day people audience share of 48.8 percent; besting ABSCBN’s 32.6 percent.

Similarly, in Mega Manila (based on November 1 to 18 data), the Kapuso Network continued its dominance with 51.1 percent total day people audience share as against competitio­n’s 28.5 percent. (JAL)
