- By JEL SANTOS

– A police official orients female police officers of the Eastern Police District (EPD) yesterday during the launch of ‘Lady Bike Patrollers’ in Pasig City. The female cops will be deployed in the cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, San Juan, and Marikina this holiday season. EPD director Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula said their program aims to promote ‘gender equality and women empowerment.’

Female police officers on bicycles will start patrolling the streets of eastern Metro Manila starting today after the Eastern Police District (EPD) launched yesterday the “Lady Bike Patrollers” group.

Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula, EPD director, said the program is aimed at promoting gender equality and women empowerment.

“I believe that women are very capable, and they can also do what men can. As such, they are very loving and approachable to all,” he said.

“I am very hopeful that their deployment on the streets of eastern Metro Manila will bring peace and order.”

He said that the deployment of the women police officers is very timely since the holiday season is at hand.

“The Lady Bike Patrollers will begin to patrol Tiendesitas, Ortigas Avenue cor. E. Rodriguez (C-5) in Pasig City. Also, in the cities of Marikina, Mandaluyong, and San Juan, the similar endeavor will also be done within their respective territorial jurisdiction to further intensify the anticriminality campaign and maintain peace and order within Metro East,” the EPD director said.

Sapitula said that the female police patrollers will likewise assist tourists visiting the cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, San Juan, and Marikina this holiday season.

In October, Sapitula has also deployed women police officers to the front desks of the police stations in the four cities under his jurisdiction.
