Ai Ai delas Alas fulfills her dream of a magical wedding
When comedy queen Ai Ai delas Alas walked down the aisle into the loving arms of her groom Gerald Sibayan last Tuesday morning, she didn’t just marry the man whom she said has offered her so much love and joy, she also fulfilled her lifelong dream of a magical wedding.
Ai Ai’s life is an open book and she made it no secret that she is one person who never gave up on love, never gave up on the hope that there was someone in her destiny of forever. A string of failed relationships and one traumatic first marriage after, this wedding fulfilled for dear Ai Ai that dream in the presence of her family and closest friends in the business, some of whom are the country’s biggest stars and celebrities.
The beautiful bride was resplendent in an off-shoulder, off-white, fully beaded gown by Frederick Peralta, a wedding gift given to her by good friend Marian Rivera.
Ai Ai looked overwhelmed and overcome by emotion, shedding tears of joy as she took in the dreamy scene inside the Christ the King Church in Pasig at around 10 a.m., when Martin Nievera started singing “Ngayon At Kailanman” signaling the start of the bridal march. All eyes were on her as she made her way through the aisle bedecked with flowers and crystals. Characteristically Ai Ai, the comedy queen was smiling, crying, laughing, and joking as she walked, much to the delight of everyone present.
The country’s biggest personalities stood as sponsors for Ai Ai and Gerald. Present were former Vice Mayor Jejomar Binay, Sen. Richard Gordon, GMA’s Atty. Felipe Gozon, Gov. Chavit Singson, APT Entertainment’s Antonio Tuviera, Tita Lolit Solis, Nancy Yang, Roselle Monteverde (representing her mother Lily Monteverde), producer Ana Puno, and GMA’s Avin Arayata.
Sadly, the other celebrity sponsors couldn’t make it – Boy Abunda, Cory Vidanes, Cong. Vilma Santos, Sen. Ralph Recto, Willie Revillame, Cristy Fermin, among others.
The Megastar Sharon Cuneta, matron of honor during the wedding (alongside Ai Ai’s daughter Sophia who was the maid
of honor) was beside herself with joy for her good friend Ai Ai. She couldn’t contain her excitement when she started walking down the aisle. She said, “I’m so kilig. I have never been this excited in such a long time.” Throughout the wedding, Sharon went on to dote on Ai Ai, dutifully fixing the trail of her gown and the gorgeous hand-painted long veil (by director Louie Ignacio) whenever the bride moves.
Alden Richards stood as Best Man, along with Ai-Ai’s son Sancho Vito and the groom’s bestfriend John Kenneth Monterubio.
The stars who stood as groomsmen and bridesmaids were Bayani Agbayani and wife Lenlen, Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez, Jose Manalo and Rufa Mae Quinto, Piolo Pascual and Pops Fernandez, Jerald Napoles and Valeen Montenegro, Randy Santiago and wife Marilou, Eugene Domingo, Marvin Agustin and Nikki Valdez, Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna were candle sponsors while Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera were veil sponsors.
The wedding ceremonies were officiated by five bishops and at least 12 priests, showing just how much loved Ai Ai is by her friends from the clergy. It will be recalled that Ai Ai is a Papal awardee. She was very vocal about her spiritual conviction that her relationship with Gerald was to stay platonic until after they both made the choice to seal their union with marriage vows.
So last Tuesday, the fulfillment of Ai Ai’s convictions and her dreams of a wedding day were realized. We are truly very happy for her.
