OVP targetting ISO certification by year-end
Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni’ Robredo”s chief of staff Philip Francisco Dy said that the Office of the Vice President (OVP) expects to get its certification for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 before the end of the year.
“Hopefully, our office will be ISO-certified by year-end,” he told the Manila Bulletin during the Christmas party hosted by OVP for reporters covering Robredo.
In this get-together, the Vice President herself also hinted about her office’s compliance with international standards, but it has to make an official announcement yet pending the issuance of the certificate.
The OVP completed the two-day audit for its application for ISO 9001:2015, a Quality Management System (QMS) certification, on December 13-14.
ISO certification is an accreditation conducted by external certification bodies to ensure that an organization performs its inter-related processes with international standards
This provides opportunities for public sector entities to consistently fulfill its mandate, address citizens’ needs and expectations.
The latest version of ISO 9001:2015 incorporates risk management to enable organizations to identify and provide a systematic approach to risk for more efficient quality management system.
The Vice President underscored the importance of ISO certification for government agencies.
“Alam naman natin ‘yung ISO parang isang certification ‘yon na nagiging efficient saka effective ‘yung pamamahala (We know the ISO is like a certification to have an efficient and effective government),” Robredo said.
The former housing chief added that the OVP has set specific standards to get an ISO certification.
Executive Order 605 of 2007 directed all government agencies to adopt the ISO standards as part of the implementation of the government-wide quality management program.
Last year, the Duterte administration gave recognition to some 191 government agencies that have attained ISO 9001 QMS certification for the years 2012-2016.
