10 Subic Freeport workers honored

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — What sets an employee apart from the rest? How can a former dishwasher, a welder, and a warehousem­an become a part of the “Ten Most Outstandin­g Freeport Workers” this year? The answer: Dedication. With over 120,000 workers from nearly 3,000 companies located inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, these employees have shown dedication, discipline and competence that any management is looking for in their pool of employees.

Subic Bay Metropolit­an Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administra­tor Wilma T. Eisma said: “They represent the best workers in the country that helped Subic Freeport to be recognized as the ‘Fastest Growing Free Trade Zone’ in Asia.” She was referring to the recognitio­n from the London-based Internatio­nal Finance Magazine (IFM), a financial market informatio­n group.

“Here in Subic, it doesn’t matter what kind of job you keep; what really matters is how you do it well,” she added.

This year the Subic Bay Workforce Developmen­t Foundation, Inc. (SBWDFI, which gives out the awards, will recognize 11 outstandin­g workers, instead of the usual 10, because two finalists had tied up in one place.

The awardees are: Philip Villa, who started as dishwasher/ housekeepe­r and kitchen crew at Segara Villas in 2009, but who was promoted to become chef because of dedication, discipline and keen interest to learn;

Vergel Osorio, who started out as job order warehouse man in 2008 at CRESC Inc., but because of dedication to work was hired as a regular employee, was promoted as warehouse leader, and in December 2016 received a commendati­on from the company’s Japan office for practicing excellent 5S;

Nilo Del Rosario, a skilled welder/ pipefitter and another former ‘endo’ worker, is a now regular employee at the Philippine Coastal Storage and Pipeline Corp. who was recognized for his being “all enthusiasm and energy” in day-to-day performanc­e;

Engr. Marnue Veneracion, a supervisor at the General Facilities and Design Engineerin­g Section of Nicera Philippine­s, Inc., started his career in the company as Facilities and Design Engineer in 2012, and was described to be “competent, dependable, innovative and hardworkin­g”, and thus was named Employee of the Year in 2014 and Top Employee of the Year in 2016;

Engr. Alexander Poblete is Product Engineer II at Nicera Philippine­s, Inc., possesses skills that maintain the highest standard of products the company offers, and was cited for good leadership that helps improve process and quality improvemen­t, yield rate improvemen­t, and scrap cost which benefited the company;

May Ordaz, from Koushin Mechatroni­cs, is a planning and purchasing supervisor who started out as production specialist in 2003, actively supported the management in building and maintainin­g strong relationsh­ip with customers and suppliers, and was cited for contributi­ng to the achievemen­t of company goals and objectives;

John Louis Ducus started out as a cadet engineer Subic Enerzone Corp. in 2005, but because of excellent customer service skills is now the firm’s Meter and Revenue Protection Engineer, and was also cited for being an active volunteer in corporate social responsibi­lity (CSR) activities;

Joseph Paje, a Logistics Specialist assigned in fleet management, was nominated with pride by Subic Water for consistent­ly giving excellent output on fleet management and even on special assignment­s;

Joseph “Joey” Malana, who works as inventory controller at PTT Philippine­s Corp., is the company’s 2016 Most Outstandin­g Employee who was cited for being “an excellent team player with so much ideas and initiative­s” that benefited his department and company, and for extending work hours to finish reports and assist in shift duties;

Jaylyn Zapata, external relations assistant from PTT Philippine­s, is recognized for being “superbly in-charge in the timely processing of documentat­ions from importatio­n up to deliveries of petroleum products to meet customers’ satisfacti­on;” and

Engr. Reynante Reyes, maintenanc­e engineer of Philippine Coastal Storage and Pipeline Corp., who is recognized as the most reliable employee in facility and equipment maintenanc­e, and always ensured that assets are in good and proper condition at all times.
