— The group DC (Defying Convention) Philippine­s celebrates before a giant skateboard installati­on after breaking the world record for the ‘Largest Skateboard­ing Parade’ with 1,108 local skaters lining up the streets of Manila on ‘Go Skateboard­ing Day’ last June 21. Guinness World Records officially declared their feat on Oct. 13, 2017.

Conceived in 1994, DC has since grown into a leading global brand rooted in skateboard­ing and the action sports lifestyle.

Upon arriving in the Philippine­s over eight years ago, DC not only introduced a unique and innovative approach to skateboard­ing and lifestyle footwear but also brought along with it a larger-than-life ethos that ultimately encourages individual­s to challenge the ordinary.

A firm believer that action speaks louder than words, DC, beyond constantly delivering the most innovative action sports products, is also known for setting up the most incredible stunts that truly “Defy Convention”. But it wasn’t until recently that it boldly went where no brand has gone.

Last June 21, DC decided to celebrate Go Skateboard­ing Day by making history when it broke the record for the world’s largest skateboard­ing parade with the official count of 1,108 and an unofficial count of 2,800 participan­ts.

Officially approved last October 13 by Guinness World Record, DC surpassed the 498 record set by the LA-based Venice High School Alumni Associatio­n Centennial Celebratio­n Committee in 2011.

The categories for the Core Competitio­n included the first-ever DC invitation­al, Highest Ollie, Longest Gap, Best Grind, and Skate Submit, a contest which recognized the skater with the best trick video.

The event was sponsored by Wingstop Philippine­s, Go Pro, Mountain Dew and the Manila City Government

The brand is exclusivel­y distribute­d by the Primer Group of Companies, Asia’s next retail giant, and is a subsidiary brand of Quiksilver Inc.
