Easy does it for Gabby in 2017

Ablessed year it’s been for Gabby Concepcion who, despite the constant surge of younger actors, stayed prominently on radar to the public thanks to his hit serye “Ika-6 Na Utos.” In an interview with Bulletin Entertainment, Gabby said 2017 is when everything fell into the right places. Why, he even won an international award, a first in his decades-long career.

The actor hopes 2018 will be the same, if not better. Then again, he’s not the type who plans anything. He is the type of guy who just “goes with the flow,” adapting to changes in order to “survive.”

“Whatever happens to me, I believe it’s the will of nature,” he said. “Kumbaga, it’s part of the evolution. If you’re not willing to change, if you’re against it… you will not survive.”

His philosophy in life has always been “do the best and make it to the

finish line.” He also quoted the Tagalog truism “Ang buhay ay parang gulong, minsan nasa baba, minsan nasa taas.”

“Kanya-kanyang byahe lang ’yan. Kung ano ’yung byahe mo, ’yun ang pag-igihan mo,” he added.

Lessons

Looking as fit and as young men half his age, the matinee idol of the ’80s related he has learned a lot of lessons in his journey in life.

“Ang buhay eh parang katawan natin eh,” he pointed out. “Our skin,

Nagbabago lahat like how you feel

about something. But etong mga bagay o pagbabago

na ito, it makes you stronger and makes you weaker at the same time. It all depends na lang on how you handle it.”

Gabby said he “renews” himself every year. How? By embracing all that comes his way.

Pero I learned to love it. When you learn to love something, it will love you back,” he maintained. Gabby returned to the Philippines in 2008, this after going on a self-imposed 13-year hiatus. He feels like a newcomer, he said.

Still winning

All the cat fights and the ever-twisting storyline have got viewers glued to “Ika-6 Na Utos.”

Interestingly enough, the show was supposed to run for just three months. Now, it’s sure to run till next year.

“Ika-6 Na Utos” is the longest teleserye Gabby has ever done.

“I immensely enjoy doing the show,” he said. “Actually this is the second time

na magse-celebrate ako ng birthday dito. Itong show na’to talaga ang nagbibigay ng swerte at biyaya, hindi lang sa akin kun’di sa aming lahat na parte ng show na ito.” On the series, Gabby is Rome, a tempted husband who gets into an affair. As the story unravels, he suffers from an accident and loses his memory. Is it stressful to do the teleserye, we asked him.

The series also stars Emma (Sunshine Dizon) and Georgia (Ryza Cenon) who are constantly at each other’s throat. “May conflict, may away, may sagutan, may pagmamahal, may kasiyahan. Kasama na lahat ng ingredients dito eh, kumbaga may tamis, may asim, balanse,” Gabby said. Asked what point the show is trying to make, Gabby hit bull’s eye with his answer. “Lahat naman ’yan (pagkakamali) dinadaanan natin at one point in our lives. Nobody’s perfect, so I hope there is room for forgiveness, change, love and eventually blessings.”
