Chinese team begins Cavite-Corregidor-Bataan coastal bridge study
MARIVELES, Bataan — A technical team of a Chinese engineers has started exploring the coastal site of the proposed 20 kilometers Manila Bay bridge that will link Bataan-CorregidorCavite which is said to be the longest coastal bridge in the country.
This was learned yesterday from Bataan Vice Governor Cris Garcia who accompanied the Chinese technical team in conducting an onsite inspection along the coastal areas of this town.
“They inspected the coastal barangays of Sisiman, Alas asin all the way to Camaya beach resort in Biaan,” said the vice governor.
Bataan provincial officials led by Governor Abet S. Garcia expressed optimism that the Chinese group is capable of constructing the coastal bridge after checking the background of the China Straight Construction and Development Corp. (CSCEC) that had already a track record in various parts of the Globe.
“I think they (CSCEC) are capable of doing the sensitive longest coastal bridge based on their track records and capability,” said the governor.
A team of Bataan officials recently went too China to see for themselves the facilities, equipment and office of the CSCEC. “We were impressed by their state-of-the-art technology and capability in building bridges,” pointed out the lady vice governor.
“We have also learned that the company has more than 300 ongoing and pending works and the longest of it is a coastal bridge in Brunei which is 16 kilometers long; they are hi-tech,” she stressed.
But she expressed caution in constructing the bridge which will link Mariveles-Corregidor-Naic in Cavite, saying the coastal bridge will traverse along Manila Bay which is the route of large ships and barges coming going out from Manila piers.
“The coastal bridge will be high enough since the area is the route of large ships, maybe around 40 meters high above the sea level,” pointed out the lady vice governor.
A Memorandum of Understanding for the said project had been officially signed between the provincial government and the CSCEC in Shangri La, Makati City.
