Despite the challenges encountered in 2017, Senators Nanncy Binay, Grace Poe and Loren Legarda are optimistic that the New Year would bring about something good for the ever-resilient Filipino.

“We Filipinos were challenged by the past year 2017 but like the bamboo that sways with the fiercest winds, we Filipinos survived and soldiered on,” Sen. Nancy Binay said in her New Year’s Day statement.

“Magtatagumpay tayo, sapagkat ang Filipino ay handang tumulong sa bawat isa, at may isang bisyon ng isang mas masagana at pinagpalang buhay (I’m very sure we will succeed, because Filipinos are always ready to help each other and all have one vision for a prosperous and blessed life),” she said.

Sen. Loren Legarda likewise hoped that Filipinos would welcome the New Year with a grateful heart.

“And may we all be stronger, wiser and more resilient,” Legarda said in a separate statement.

“I hope that the challenges we faced yesterday would strengthen our resolve to do better tomorrow,” she said.

Legarda said she prays that the tragedies that befell fellow Filipinos would serve as lessons that will bring about urgent action to build safer and more resilient communities.

“The 2018 national budget, which I sponsored and championed, recognizes the actual needs and aspirations of our people, especially the poor and the most vulnerable. It is a budget that will sustain our economic growth while also protecting the basic rights of Filipinos,” she emphasized.

Sen. Grace Poe said there is still unfinished work to do at the Senate that she is looking forward to finishing in 2018.

“The year 2017 challenged our mettle and unity as a nation,” Poe pointed out.

“Amid the crisis in Marawi, typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural and man-made calamities, we remained united and resilient as a nation and turned the corner relying on each other’s strength,” Poe said.
