Cavite lass raped, slain; suspect is a 17-year-old

CAMP GEN. GARCIA, Cavite — Police have arrested a 17year-old boy who is the suspect in the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl inside a cemetery in Cavite City last Saturday.

Police withheld the identities of the suspect and the victim in the Cavite City incident for the meantime as they are both minors.

The 17-year-old suspect was arrested by police hours after the victim’s body was found by a patrolling security guard at Himlayang Caviteño, a cemetery in the city. He was allegedly one of the victim’s last two companions after a drinking session in the neighborho­od.

The victim was found dead and halfnaked on a narrow passage between a tomb and a mausoleum early Saturday morning.

Probers said she was bludgeoned to death.

The suspect, who was picked up for questionin­g by the Cavite City police, allegedly admitted to the crime. He also allegedly named and implicated his companion, who is now the subject of a police hunt.

The Cavite City incident happened two weeks after a 22-year-old man raped and stabbed a 42-year-old housewife to death inside her house in Mendez-Nuñez. The suspect, a neighbor, also stabbed the victim’s 18-yearold daughter during the incident. The daughter, who reportedly sustained 10 wounds, survived the attack.

Crimes go up IMUS, Cavite — The number of major crime cases filed such as murder, homicide, rape, violence against women and child abuse have increased in this populous province in the last three quarters of 2017, the Provincial Prosecutor­s’ Office noted.

Provincial Chief Prosecutor Gavino B. Mapanoo is set to release soon his year-end report on the filed crime cases in his jurisdicti­on, including the fourth or last quarter.

Senior Superinten­dent William M. Segun, Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) acting director, and his concerned staff officer have yet to render their official third and fourth quarterly reports.

A PPO source said that the report detailing the number of crime cases and the peace and order situation for the year in each district of the province may be ready by mid-January 2018.

Records showed that there were a total of 95 murder cases filed in third quarter which is higher by 44 cases than the second quarter with 51 while homicide cases 83, up by 42 from second quarter’s 41.
