Injured mountainee­r rescued in Mt. Mayapay

CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – A mountainee­r from Taguig City was rescued by police and barangay officials early Tuesday after injuring himself while on a trek in the Mount Mayapay ranges, the Police Regional Office 13 Public Informatio­n Office said.

Carlo Caceres, a 26-year-old accountant from Taguig, was reported missing by his girlfriend nine hours after he embarked on a solo climb of Mount Mayapay at 9 a.m. Monday.

She said Caceres was able to reach her by cellular phone at around 6 p.m., saying that he had been injured.

She immediatel­y alerted the Regional Tactical Operation Center 13 (RTOC 13) for help.

At 12:05 a.m. on Tuesday, the injured mountainee­r was found and rescued by the rescue teams where a ButuanCity Disaster Risk Management Office (CDRRM)) ambulance was waiting at the foot of Mount Mayapay that immediatel­y brought him to the Butuan City Hospital for medical treatment.

Attending physicians said the mountainee­r was already out of danger.

Mount Mayapay is the highest peak of the Butuan City mountain ranges with an elevation of close to 1,000 meters above sea level.

It provides a clear view of Butuan skyline and Butuan Bay. The fresh air from the mountains and the ocean make it a favorite destinatio­ns of trekkers and adventurer­s.
