Injured mountaineer rescued in Mt. Mayapay
CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – A mountaineer from Taguig City was rescued by police and barangay officials early Tuesday after injuring himself while on a trek in the Mount Mayapay ranges, the Police Regional Office 13 Public Information Office said.
Carlo Caceres, a 26-year-old accountant from Taguig, was reported missing by his girlfriend nine hours after he embarked on a solo climb of Mount Mayapay at 9 a.m. Monday.
She said Caceres was able to reach her by cellular phone at around 6 p.m., saying that he had been injured.
She immediately alerted the Regional Tactical Operation Center 13 (RTOC 13) for help.
At 12:05 a.m. on Tuesday, the injured mountaineer was found and rescued by the rescue teams where a ButuanCity Disaster Risk Management Office (CDRRM)) ambulance was waiting at the foot of Mount Mayapay that immediately brought him to the Butuan City Hospital for medical treatment.
Attending physicians said the mountaineer was already out of danger.
Mount Mayapay is the highest peak of the Butuan City mountain ranges with an elevation of close to 1,000 meters above sea level.
It provides a clear view of Butuan skyline and Butuan Bay. The fresh air from the mountains and the ocean make it a favorite destinations of trekkers and adventurers.
